CECAD actively promotes equality in research with the long-term goal of having well-balanced proportions of women and men within the Cluster of Excellence. CECAD is therefore committed to the ‘Keep Women on the Scientific Career Path’ action plan.

Although many excellent young women scientists are engaged in research during undergraduate and postgraduate studies, the proportion of women working in life sciences falls considerably. The reasons for this may include a lack of female role models and too little career encouragement with changing family situations. One of CECAD’s long-term goals is therefore to achieve an equal balance in the numbers of male and female life scientists within the Cluster, and prevent women from dropping out of research.

The ‘Keep Women on the Scientific Career Path‘ action plan combines an increase in networking among women, the advancement of women scientists through tailor-made workshops, and active family support. A further important aspect of the program is the close cooperation with the Gender Commissioner’s team and the Dual Career and Family Support at the University of Cologne.
