Dr. Michael Lammers receives Heisenberg Fellowship from the German Research Foundation
CECAD and Emmy Noether Group leader Dr. Michael Lammers has been awarded a Heisenberg Fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG). Michael Lammers and his team explore how protein function can be regulated by diverse acylations, which were recently identified to occur on lysine side chains. Furthermore, they want to find out how a dysfunction in this protein modification machinery contributes to the organisms’ aging process and disease development. Using a combined synthetic biological, structural biological, cell biological and biophysical approach, the group of Dr. Lammers has identified novel protein regulatory mechanisms exerted by this modification system, which might lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of age-related diseases.
With the Heisenberg programme, the DFG supports young researches, who have qualified for a professorship and have demonstrated excellence in their research achievements. The fellowship will enable Michael Lammers to expand and intensify his research on lysine acylation.
