Cluster of Excellence CECAD took the opportunity of MS Wissenschaft’s mooring in the city to hold a special evening event on 24th August aboard the inland cargo vessel. Radio Host, Dr. Ralf Müller-Schmid of DRadio Wissen, hosted the evening, the highpoint of which was a high-level, interdisciplinary panel debate on the topic: “Aging Research – an Investment in the Future”. Taking part in the animated discussions were Prof. Thomas Krieg, Prof Carien Niessen, Dr Bernhard Schermer, Prof Michael Wagner and Prof Christiane Woopen, the opening address being given by Prof. Thomas Benzing. Guests drawn from scientific, political, economic and cultural circles, were given an exclusive viewing of the interactive exhibit “Keep the worm alive!” - CECAD’s contribution to the floating science center. An impressive live presentation on work with model organisms and a sound installation rounded off the evening on board.
With the interactive exhibit “Keep the worm alive!”, CECAD has been participating in the program of events on the theme of “Research for Our Health” aboard the exhibition ship “MS Wissenschaft”. From 19th May through to the end of September 2011 the exhibition ship will have cruised through Germany and Austria, mooring in 35 cities. The promoters “Science in Dialogue” were funded by BMBF and set up by leading German scientific organisations. On 24th and 25th August the floating science center opened her hatches in Cologne, offering visitors fascinating insights into the human body.
