Tamas Horvath joins CECAD Cologne as fifth recruitment
After having been selected for the Alexander von Humboldt-Professorship, Prof.Tamas Horvath decided to join the Cluster of Excellence on ageing research of the University of Cologne, CECAD Cologne. With the help of this award the University of Cologne was able to offer a renowned scientist of the University of Yale an internationally competitive offer. Horvath will be the fifth new research faculty recruitment of CECAD Cologne since its start.
Prof. Thorsten Hoppe was CECAD Cologne's first recruitment as W3-professor (September 2008). His research focuses on protein degradation in development and ageing. Mirka Uhlirova started as a CECAD Cologne Independent Research Group Leader on 1 November 2008. Uhlirova’s research concentrates on cellular stress signalling pathways and their role in cancer. Björn Schumacher started at the beginning of 2009. As a Research Group Leader he aims to advance the knowledge of the biology of ageing and the role of DNA damage both in ageing and cancer. Alexandra Trifunovic also started as an Independent Research Group Leader of CECAD Cologne at the beginning of March 2009. Her main goal is the search for molecular mechanisms that link increased amounts of somatic mtDNA with premature ageing.
Horvath is working in the field of neuro-endocrinology and obesity research and ideally complements the existing, continuously growing and deepening work of the Cluster.
