CECAD Professor Christian Frezza receives Alexander von Humboldt Award

Germany's most highly endowed international research prizes were awarded again in 2022 in Berlin / CECAD Professor Christian Frezza receives his certificate at the award ceremony

The Alexander von Humboldt Professorship brings outstanding international researchers to German universities. The Alexander von Humboldt Professorship brings top international researchers to German universities. The CECAD Cluster of Excellence was able to win Christian Frezza from the University of Cambridge for the Cologne location in 2021.

After a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 21 award winners from the years 2020 to 2022 received their award on May 12 in Berlin from the Federal Minister of Education and Research Bettina Stark-Watzinger and Hans-Christian Pape, President of the Humboldt Foundation.

With up to five million euros in funding, the prize not only offers optimal financial conditions, but also maximum flexibility for cutting-edge research in Germany.

"This professorship enables me to expand our work on metabolism in a dynamic environment at CECAD and the University of Cologne, and to establish new and exciting collaborations," said Christian Frezza. As part of his professorship for "Metabolomics and Aging", he is investigating at CECAD how aging how aging affects nutrient processing e.g. in cancer cells, with the aim to develop novel therapeutic strategies to reverse, or prevent these changes.

In addition to Christian Frezza, the honourees include two other researchers from Cologne: the literary scholar Professor Dr. Kate Rigby (Faculty of Arts and Humanities) and the microbiologist Professor Dr. Bart Thomma (CEPLAS).
