Curiosity, discovery, and dialogue shaped the 2025 Open Day, as CECAD, the Cluster of Excellence for Aging Research. joined forces with the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing and the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research to open the doors of science to the public.
With over 650 visitors, this year’s event was a vivid celebration of knowledge-sharing, where guests of all ages explored the latest findings in ageing research through interactive exhibits, lab tours, and face-to-face conversations with scientists.
Visitors stepped into research labs and learned first-hand how scientists investigate the biological mechanisms of ageing and age-related diseases. CECAD’s researchers, together with colleagues from the Max Planck Institutes, presented their work with passion and clarity, sparking curiosity and new connections.
A special highlight were the hands-on experiment stations, where guests could run their own simple experiments and better understand how metabolism and ageing processes are studied in the lab.
Throughout the day, a series of engaging talks added depth to the experience, offering insights into the challenges and breakthroughs in ageing and metabolic research: from basic science to translational approaches.
We are grateful to everyone who visited, asked questions, and showed such enthusiasm for our research. CECAD is proud to be part of this thriving scientific community in Cologne, and we look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
