Björn Schumacher at the NRW-Fortschrittslecture in Berlin
On Monday, 30th of May 2016 Prof. Björn Schumacher, Principal Investigator at CECAD, Prof. Christiane Woopen, managing director of ceres and TV host Bettina Böttinger discussed with 200 participants what is important for an healthy, happy and good life and aging in the permanent representation of NRW in Berlin.
Started by two short talks by the cologne scientists, a vivid discussion followed on stage and in the plenum. One of the discussed aspects was the lacking appreciation of aging people in the society and the influence of gender and social inequality on the expectancy of life. Following, host Dr. Christiane Berndt (Süddeutsche Zeitung) interviewed the minister of science (NRW) Svenja Schulze and University of Cologne´s rector Prof. Axel Freimuth on the stage to discuss scientific strategies and political questions. Prof. Freimuth especially emphasized on the importance of the aging-science core area in cologne, Svenja Schulze was enthusiastic about the unique, complementing one another scientific research, which is performed by CECAD and ceres in Cologne.
The minister and the university would like to extend the „NRW-Fortschrittslecture on Healthy aging“ after this successful start.
