“I studied at the University of Cologne and am delighted to have the opportunity to support young talents at my alma mater,” explains Ulrich Korwitz. The biologist and former head of ZB Med has been supporting recipients of “Germany and Social Fellowships” as a private donor for many years. This year, he donated a substantial amount to international early-career researchers. Regarding his motivation, Korwitz says: “Science and research are under pressure worldwide. I want to actively demonstrate that all scientists are welcome in Germany.”

Ulrich Korwitz's support is a real gain for aging researcher and early-career scientist Skyler Perot. In his doctoral thesis, Perot developed various cell lines to investigate protein interactions and optimize the efficiency of gene editing. "Mr. Korwitz's funding helps me with my orientation after completing my doctorate. I want to stay in my research field and establish myself in academia or industry in Europe." Over the next six months, the American will be setting the course for his career.

Motivated and highly qualified young scientists make a significant contribution to CECAD's success. "I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks for the donation, which helps to make CECAD attractive to international researchers," said Prof. Dr. Björn Schumacher, Scientific Director of CECAD.
