Prof. Dr. Elena Rugarli has been awarded new E-Rare coordinator
CECAD scientist Prof. Dr. Elena Rugarli has recently been awarded as an european E-Rare (ERA-Net for Research Programmes on Rare Diseases) coordinator.
E-Rare coordinates scientific projects throughout Europe investigating rare diseases.
Prof. Dr. Elena Rugarli will be head of a consortium called NEUROLIPID. Next to the german research team, there are also groups from France and Italy involved in this project. Their goal is to investigate the role of lipid metabolism in hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP).
HSP is a neurodegenerative disease that is characterised by spastic paralysis. Hopefully their research will provide information that will lead to new therapeutic approaches for HSP.
