Psychotherapy for depression in old age

The Elisabeth Mack-Usselmann and Dr. Michael Mack Foundation has honored the CBTlate psychotherapy study in geriatric depression and the associated study group "Psychotherapy in Geriatric Depression" with its first-ever prize of 10,000 euros.

CBTlate is a study funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research at seven centers that compared two psychotherapy methods in a total of 248 patients with depression in older age. Significant and sustained improvement in depression was achieved in both treatment methods. The study is coordinated by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Frank Jessen, Director of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital of Cologne and the Faculty of Medicine, together with Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martin Hautzinger from Tübingen.

The Elisabeth Mack-Usselmann and Dr. Michael Mack Foundation honors and supports projects in the fields of depression research, art and philosophy with reference to the namesakes. The prize money will be used to support the implementation of the study results in general care.
