Two CGA Alumni Receive Klaus Liebrecht Award

David Meyer and Aishwarya Acharya have been awarded the prestigious Klaus Liebrecht Prize for their doctoral dissertations. Both are 2018 graduates of the Cologne Graduate School of Ageing Research (CGA).

We are delighted to congratulate David Meyer and Aishwarya Acharya on receiving the prestigious 2026 Klaus Liebrecht Prize from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Cologne. The award recognizes outstanding doctoral and diploma theses and honors young researchers who have made exceptional scientific contributions. It is considered one of the university’s most significant honors for early‑career researchers.

David Meyer earned his Ph.D. in Björn Schumacher's lab at the CECAD Research Center. Aishwarya Acharya completed her doctoral dissertation in Constantinos Demetriades' lab at the MPI for Biology of Aging.

Reflecting on the award, David Meyer said: “The Klaus Liebrecht Award for my research on biological clocks (ageing clocks) is the perfect conclusion to my PhD. I am especially pleased to share this success with Aish for her work on mTOR. It is a wonderful testament to the scientific diversity of our graduate school.”

His words highlight not only the significance of this personal achievement, but also the collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment that characterizes the CGA and the Cologne ageing research community.
